Volunteer at the Seedling Sale!

We are seeking volunteers on Seedling Sale days May 11th & 12th. We are seeking parking lot attendants and guides for the shoppers.

  • Parking lot attendants will ensure there are parking spaces and send any extras to the off-site area. The off-site parking lot attendants will need to monitor the lot and oversee the purchases dropped off by the Seedling Shuttle.

  • Guides will make sure there aren't too many shoppers in the greenhouse and will have some familiarity with the sale maps in the outside areas. They will also organize plants during the sale. Restock/bring the pots to the front of the flats and consolidate flats as they empty.

Join our workshare program!

What is a workshare?

Workshares commit to a repeating schedule of a few hours of work each week in exchange for a CSA share of vegetables. We have opportunities to join the workshare program in three aspects of farm operations, helping out in the field, at the CSA tent, the Farm Stand, and a more flexible position at the Roslindale Farmers Market.

Please email csa@brookwoodcommunityfarm.org if you are interested in a workshare position!

CSA Tent Monitor:

The CSA Tent Monitor work shares play a vital role in welcoming our CSA members to pick up their shares. Workshares commit to one pick-up day per week and in return, receive a CSA veggie share when they work. Farm staff prepare workshares at the beginning of their shift with proper training on procedures, produce, and any special instructions for the day. Requirements for workshares include the ability to lift 50 lbs, work in various weather conditions under a tent, and possess a positive attitude towards creating a sense of community for Brookwood CSA members. Here's what workshares do during CSA pick-ups:

  • Set up, restock, and breakdown of produce displays

  • Guide members through the sign-in and pick-up procedure

  • Offer guidance for pick-your-own crops, herbs, and other important information

  • Relay questions and feedback to farm staff

Farm Stand:

Farmstand work shares play a vital role in welcoming people to the farm with warm greetings, information about the farm, and selling our produce. Here’s what workshares do during Farm Stand hours:

  • Set up, restock, and break down of farm stand display of produce

  • Provide information about the farm including our crops, and CSA, and relay questions to the farm staff as needed.

  • Handle check-out procedures including weighing produce, and processing payments such as cash, credit, and EBT.

Our season runs for 26 weeks (May 26th- November 23rd) and workshares can choose between spring, summer, fall, or all three seasons on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

  • Spring is four weeks (weeks of May 26th- June 16th)

  • Summer is fourteen weeks (weeks of June 23rd- September 22nd)

  • Fall is eight weeks (weeks of September 29th- November 17th)

The shift options for the CSA Tent and Farm Stand are:

  • Tuesday (1 PM - 7 PM)

  • Thursday (1 PM - 7 PM)

  • Saturday (8 AM - 1:30 PM)

We currently have two openings on our Board of Directors.

The board meets monthly, virtually or in person, depending on the situation, and lends a hand at events such as the annual Seedling Sale, the End of Season Sale, and other social or fundraising events like our participation in The Ride for Food by Three Squares New England.

  1. We are seeking a mindful individual with solid accounting experience to join our board to maintain and broaden the scope of the current volunteer board.

  2. We are seeking someone with farming experience and a passion for our mission. Please see the additional description for this position here.

Please reach out to Cathy Smith president@brookwoodcommunityfarm.org if you are interested.

Roslindale Farmers Market Workshare:

Do you like veggies? Want to learn more about local farming in the greater Boston area? Come try out a workshare shift with Brookwood Community Farm at the Roslindale Farmers' Market!

The Market runs from 9 am-1:30 pm every Saturday from June 3rd to November 18th. Workshares pick the morning shift (7:30 am-11 am) or the afternoon shift (11 am-2:30 pm) that occurs on Saturday each week. Morning workshares will help us unload the truck, set up our produce stand, restock as the day progresses, and answer customer questions. Afternoon workshares will help restock produce, answer questions, and pack up our booth at the end of the day. During each shift, you can pick a CSA share's worth of produce (roughly $30 in value) from the veggies we bring to market that week!

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to volunteer on a week-to-week basis without a consistent long-term schedule. Join the fun and inquire today!

Volunteers are an essential part of the Brookwood Community, participating in all aspects of planting, growing, and harvesting our crops, distribution, and food access work. For those of you who aren’t interested in farm work, there are plenty of ways to help out, including newsletter production, accounting, outreach, website design/maintenance, fundraising, event planning, human resources, and working with the board.

Interested? Please do 2 things: 1. Subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of this page and 2. fill out this volunteer application. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can. You can also check out our calendar for any scheduled volunteer days. We recommend that you wear closed-toe shoes, pants, sun protection, and bring bug protection and a water bottle!

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our volunteer program.
